Our Rating System & Standards Explained

Our ultimate hope is to guide our readers through the vast world of beauty products, making their purchasing decisions easier and more informed. Our reviews distill the essence of each product into a comprehensive rating, reflecting our combined expertise and rigorous testing.

We remain unbiased, with no influence from brands in our ratings. Brands are never able to pay for a higher rating, we work hard for our reads, not for brands.

Keep in mind that this is our opinion, and a better scored product is not necessarily better for you than a lesser scored product. Beauty works and reacts differently to everyone, BUT this is our best effort to inform you of what products in the market are worth your time and money.

We love reviewing beauty products and rigorously testing them to help people make good choices, but in the end it’s up to you to make the final decision if the product is good for you or not.

We will always use our experience, expertise, and love to give the best and most honest rating we can.

What do we Rank for?

There is a pretty big difference between testing a lip-gloss compared to a hair curler, but we strive to make our review system as uniform as possible. We decided that there are really 5 things that readers should care about when it comes to beauty products.

  • Performance (0-10): Measures how well the product works. Factors include effectiveness, scent, texture, longevity, and wow factor of the product.
  • Ingredients or Material (0-10): This criterion assesses the quality, safety, and sourcing of the ingredients (for products like cosmetics, skincare, etc.) or materials (for tools and accessories). Products with high-quality, non-toxic, and sustainably sourced ingredients or materials receive higher scores.
  • Packaging (0-10): Evaluates the design, functionality, and environmental impact of the packaging. Innovative, attractive, and eco-friendly packaging scores higher.
  • Price (0-10): Considers the product’s affordability and value for money. Products that offer excellent quality at a reasonable price receive higher scores.
  • Brand Reputation (0-10): Looks at the brand’s market presence, customer feedback, ethical practices, and commitment to sustainability.

Each category is rated on a scale from 0 to 10, with the total score being an average of these five categories.

Rating Scale

  • 0-3.9 (Poor): Products that disappoint in quality or performance. Rarely reviewed, as they don’t meet our standard of value for our readers.
  • 4-4.9 (Below Average): These products fall short of expectations, offering subpar quality or effectiveness.
  • 5-5.9 (Average): Functional but unremarkable products. There are better alternatives available.
  • 6-6.9 (Fair): Adequate products that may work for specific needs, but not impressive overall.
  • 7-7.9 (Good): Reliable and effective products that we frequently recommend.
  • 8-8.9 (Very Good): High-quality products that stand out for their performance and design.
  • 9-9.7 (Excellent): Exceptional products that exceed expectations in almost every aspect.
  • 9.8-10 (Outstanding): Rare, top-tier products that set the standard in their category.

Review Process

  • Testing Phase: I rigorously test each product, considering different usage scenarios, skin, body, and face types to assess its performance under various conditions.
  • In-Depth Analysis: I dive deep into each product, exploring everything from the ingredients or materials used to how well it really works.
  • Collaborative Feedback (when possible): When available, I incorporate feedback from others to add diverse perspectives and enhance the review’s depth and accuracy.
  • Final Rating: The final rating is determined by individually assessing each of the five criteria (Performance, Ingredients or Materials, Packaging, Price, Brand Reputation) and calculating their average.

Note: This process aims to offer personal, thorough, and unbiased reviews, reflecting my direct experience, in-depth analysis, and collaborative insights when available.
